Greetings to all of you in Komciwan and those of you who follow Komciwan on FB and other channels
“Greetings to all of you in Komciwan and those of you who follow Komciwan on FB and other channels, I’ve been here for almost a week now. My colleagues and I in Change International and Help Kurdistan meet children, families and elderly internally displaced persons. Many have taken refuge away from the war-affected areas, above all Serê Kanîyê. All over Qamişlo and in Hassake, schools are overflowing with families. Schools fulfill the function of a place to stay and a roof over your head right now. School education for the children has therefore stopped. Some schools are intact and have good facilities for toilets and heating, others unfortunately do not! We plan our days here from one day to the next and don’t really know what awaits us. We have good help from our contact persons on site.
The remarkable thing that I meet with among all I meet here, is not the demand for supplies, but above all the hope and the desire to return to their homes. When we ask what they need help with, they are most grateful that we are there and are fellow human beings. That we see them and that, above all, the outside world does not forget them. They are happy to offer tea and food, even though they themselves are on a tight budget and we can see that they don’t have much else.
Many of them have lost either a brother or sister, child or a parent, but somehow still have the spark of life and the hope for a better future, we are met with hospitality, generosity and warmth despite the situation they find themselves in.”
