Conflicts that deeply affect the whole world have gripped the Middle East for more than a century. One of the primary reasons for this turmoil is the historical injustice committed against the Kurds, an ancient people of the region, in the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne. This is a wound that has never healed. Kurds, whose national rights have been usurped by a number of different states for a hundred years, are dedicated to a legitimate struggle against this historical injustice.

OUR CALL TO THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC
Conflicts that deeply affect the whole world have gripped the Middle East for more than a century. One of the primary reasons for this turmoil is the historical injustice committed against the Kurds, an ancient people of the region, in the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne. This is a wound that has never healed. Kurds, whose national rights have been usurped by a number of different states for a hundred years, are dedicated to a legitimate struggle against this historical injustice.
At heavy costs, some gains were achieved in the southern and southwestern parts of the region inhabited by Kurdish people. Unable to tolerate the achievements of the people of Kurdistan, regional states continue to support various extremist and jihadist groups that target the Kurds and, under various pretexts, disregarding the rules of international law, use modern weaponry to carry out attacks against defenseless civilians. In other words, they commit massacres.
These systematic attacks continue in the most brutal ways. Iran’s attack on Erbil on January 15, 2024, is the most recent example of this. Civilian settlements were targeted with drones and rockets, civilians were killed and many people were injured. Such attacks are a voliation of international law and human rights and must be stopped immediately. Moving forward, the necessary measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the people of Kurdistan, an effort that requires the support of the international public.
Hostile regional states and extremist groups benefit from the silence of the international public and global institutions. In this regard, people around the world must take urgent measures to ensure that peace is protected in the Middle East and around the world.
As we strongly protest the attacks against Kurds and Kurdish achievements, we call on – the international public, – the United Nations Security Council, – the Council of Europe, – the European Union, – human rights organizations, and all other international institutions and organizations in the name of humanity and world peace…
